Getting Started

One of the key tasks in education is to learn the language. Each profession--medicine, law, football, plumbing, engineering and education-- has a unique language.

The word “Educate” means to lead forth or guide. The concept of a teacher as a guide to learning is different from our common perception of a teacher as a source of knowledge.

CatalystThe format of TALENT is to serve as a resource as you think about effective learning and the roles you play as a guide. In each module, there will be sections called “Catalysts” containing questions to stimulate your thinking. TALENT is not like Emeril where he cooks and you try to mimic his recipes and techniques. TALENT is more like Iron Chef; we will give you the ingredients and you will use your imagination to cook up effective teaching strategies.
