When to Teach?

ANYTIME and ANYWHERE!

Formal conferences, morning report, attending rounds and work rounds are the usual forums for teaching. However, effective teachers recognize and anticipate teachable moments. Good teachers have learned with experience when to teach, and they recognize some of the best teaching occurs “on the fly” or in the moment—perhaps at the patient’s bedside or in the hallway or over a cup of coffee with the team.
